“A Mini 4WD that looks fast is already different from its stopped figure.” What suits such words is “1/32 TRF Works Jr.” An assembly kit of a four-wheel drive racer where you can enjoy high-performance running, with styling imagining the works machine of “TRF”, an RC team active in the world, as a major feature. In addition to a smoothly flowing aerodynamic form, colorings incorporating pink and blue flames based on white are vivid. While there is an atmosphere typical of racing machines in appearance alone, real fun lies inside the chassis. It is a single machine packed with the fun of running, the interest of assembling, and even the depth of thinking about settings.
Supporting the running of TRF Works Jr. is the “MS Chassis” adopting a 3-part split structure. Adopting a mid-ship layout mounting a double shaft motor extending shafts from both ends of the motor into the vehicle body center, it realizes high drive efficiency by combining with the 4WD mechanism traditional to Mini 4WD. Furthermore, heavy parts like batteries are also arranged near the center. Batteries become a low center of gravity design mounted distributed to the left and right of the motor, firmly considered up to stability during high-speed running. You might think “If pursuing speed, wouldn't it become difficult to handle?”, but designs to make speed and stable running compatible are packed in.
The MS Chassis is composed of three parts—nose, center, and tail—and being able to attach and detach each unit with one touch is also a point. When enjoying Mini 4WD, scenes arise where you think “If it's this course, I want to change the setting a little.” In such times, a structure capable of speedy specification changes is likely a delightful point. What's more, because two types of nose units are prepared, there is the interest of finishing the machine while thinking of your own directionality. The moment of completion is not the goal, but raising it while modifying matching the course and running conditions. Precisely this trial and error is one of the reasons to enjoy TRF Works Jr. for a long time.
Attention goes not only to the chassis, but to the body as well. What is adopted is a polycarbonate body light in weight and superior in strength. It has become a shape reminiscent of TRF's works machines active in the world of RC racing, with a low, smooth silhouette that seems likely to slice through air and advance being impressive. Combining white small-diameter wheels and slick tires there further emphasizes the overall racy impression. Not saying “It's fine as long as running performance is good,” but wanting to commit even to the coolness when gazing at the machine. It is a design answering the feelings of such Mini 4WD fans.
Equipping slick tires for the footwork, ultra-fast gears with a gear ratio of 3.5:1 are set as standard. Combining with double shaft motors and low center of gravity MS Chassis, it has become a specification where you can firmly taste the fun of running in races. Basic size is total length 154mm, total width 92mm, total height 41mm. Assembly does not require adhesive, and being able to complete by snap-fitting and screw-fastening is an easy-to-tackle point. First running with standard specifications, and while looking at those results, heightening performance using abundant separately sold parts will be interesting as well.
TRF Works Jr. is not a model merely for gazing at the completed figure. Assembling an aerodynamic polycarbonate body, mounting a double shaft motor onto the MS Chassis, and actually sending it out onto the course. Changing settings while thinking “How to make it faster?” “If stabilizing it?” Through that repetition, a single machine changes into your own specification little by little. For people who want to fully taste the fun unique to Mini 4WD—assembly, running, modification—it is a single machine where depth becomes visible the more you touch it.
