with unique equipment for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force!
The realistic reproduction of details
like the landing gear and engine exhaust nozzles, and the cockpit, are irresistible!
The F-15J Eagle 306th Tactical Fighter Squadron 2025 is here!
Finding ”beauty” in a fighter jet──it was this F-15J commemorative painted aircraft that first made me realize such a perspective. The aircraft of the 306th Tactical Fighter Squadron displayed at the Komatsu Air Base Air Festival in 2025 was not just a weapon. The illustration, which fused the power of the large Golden Eagle painted on the aircraft's back with Komatsu City's proud Kabuki culture, exuded a presence strong enough to instantly captivate the hearts of spectators at the air show. It felt like a work of art using the sky as a canvas, and when I thought I could bring that sight back to my hands—the value of this plastic model shone exceptionally brightly.
The reason this model is not just a commemorative good lies in the ”authenticity” found in the details. The meticulous details of the landing gear and engine nozzles are, of course, impressive, but the level of reproduction inside the cockpit is also stunning. The scale is a manageable 1/72, yet the completed length is approximately 260mm, making it sufficiently impressive. Displaying it in your room allows you to immerse yourself in the feeling that the pride of the squadron and the excitement of the air festival gently resurface. Being manufactured by Platz, it enjoys high trust from model fans, is easy for beginners to assemble, and is also appealing for advanced users as it leaves room for adding further individuality through painting and customization.
One of the highlights of this kit is undoubtedly the included decals. Sheets made by Cartograf, which are highly regarded worldwide, are used, and their quality is guaranteed. Graphics on the side of the nosecone featuring the motif of the rough waves of the Sea of Japan, or the air festival's catchphrase displayed on the fuel tank—each is impressive. The presence of these decals is very significant as parts that finely reproduce “that excitement” known only to those who saw the actual aircraft.
Considering that the F-15J itself has been the main pillar of Japan's air defense, protecting its skies from 1982 to the present, this model holds a meaning that transcends mere hobby. The specification, based on the American F-15C but with unique Japanese equipment added, is truly a fighter jet imbued with a “domestic soul.” By adding the cultural coloring of commemorative paint to it, a multi-layered appeal emerges. Through the model, “records” and “stories” that go beyond mere reproduction appear in your hands. That experience will be an irreplaceable asset for model fans.
