Do you remember that fateful encounter in the first episode of “Super Dimension Fortress Macross”? The two-seater Valkyrie, the VF-1D, that Hikaru Ichijo first piloted. It has finally joined the 1/72 scale Fighter Valkyrie series from PLAMAX. For fans, it's a kit that makes it possible to recreate “that day.” What's more, it doesn't just stop at a recreation; it's also packed with the fun of assembly.
The amazing thing about this kit is that while the number of parts is modest, the details are incredibly rich. The dense sculpting and smooth construction provide an assembly experience that feels like you're handling an actual aircraft. It has an addictive feel that makes you want to assemble it again and again. The part seams are also designed to be hard to see, resulting in a natural and sharp finish. The rigidity when completed gives a sense of security that it has “fit together perfectly.”
The parts exclusive to the VF-1D, from the head and cockpit to the top of the aircraft, are meticulously crafted with a new mold. Especially eye-catching are the seated figures of Hikaru Ichijo and Lynn Minmay that fit into the cockpit. The atmosphere of the TV anime is revived in a palm-sized model. The sight of the two sitting quietly stimulates the builder's imagination, making you want to spin the rest of the story within the model.
A total of five molded colors are used. It's designed to have an atmospheric finish even without painting, so you can enjoy enough realism just by applying the stickers and decals. This is a big appeal for model beginners. It's a welcome feature that you can easily get a cool finish even if you're not good at detailed painting.
What's even more unique is the included “cockpit unit” part that can be hung and displayed on other VF-1 mobile suits. This expands the ways you can play with it beyond just displaying it, such as recreating a scene from the battlefield or a rescue drama. The scope of your collection also broadens, and the ability to link with other kits is a welcome element for fans following the series.
