Centaur Mk.IV. If that name rings a bell, you're quite the military enthusiast.
When it comes to British tanks, many might think of the Cromwell or Churchill, but the Centaur has a fascinating backstory of its own.
The Centaur was a “provisional model” built with the older Liberty engine, due to production delays of the Meteor engine originally intended for the Cromwell.
Of all the Centaur types, Mk.IV was the only version actually deployed in battle.
During the Normandy landings, it played a crucial supporting role from the beaches with its powerful 95mm howitzer—a true unsung hero.
This 1/35 scale model faithfully recreates the historically significant Centaur Mk.IV in fine detail.
The 95mm howitzer immediately commands attention with its imposing size.
Its large-caliber barrel, rarely seen in anti-tank combat, gives the entire model a sense of power and heft.
And the attention to detail is impeccable.
The turret is adorned with detailed targeting scales for recreating fire support from landing craft, all represented using slide decals.
Even the most detail-oriented modelers will be impressed with the results.
Adding narrative depth to the model are the included figures of the tank commander and loader.
These figures bring a human element to the model, grounding it in the reality of the battlefield.
Depending on how you pose them, you can recreate the chaotic scenes of the Normandy landings.
This turns model building into a moment of historical reflection, rather than just assembly.
This Centaur Mk.IV kit is more than just a model.
It serves as a three-dimensional document of history, encapsulating why this vehicle was created and how it served.
If you have even a slight interest in military models, this is a must-have.
Within the contours of this tank, you can almost hear the heartbeat of its era.
