【Grand Prix Collection】The legendary car known as "Black Beauty" now in 3D form! The Lotus Type 79 1978 that revolutionized F1 in 1978 makes its debut!

2025-05-07
In 1978, a maverick burst onto the F1 scene—the Lotus Type 79.
As an evolution of the previous year’s Type 78, it was enhanced to reach even greater heights. But this machine was more than just about speed. With inboard rear suspension, a thoroughly reworked fuel tank and exhaust layout, it delivered performance that seemed to cling to the ground. By fully harnessing the Venturi effect, Mario Andretti achieved a pole-to-win debut at the Belgian GP, kicking off a streak of dominance. With its breathtakingly beautiful form and jet-black body color, it earned the fitting nickname “Black Beauty”—a truly historic car.
A plastic model of this legendary machine, the Lotus Type 79, is now available for your collection. Built at 1/20 scale, the finished model measures 220mm in length and 108mm in width. The precisely crafted monocoque is paired with removable front and rear cowls, allowing you to closely examine the internal structure like the engine bay and suspension even after assembly. The car’s low, sleek body lines and the iconic wing-shaped side pontoons are beautifully reproduced, offering the realism of standing right in a pit lane.
This model kit includes metal air funnel covers to realistically finish the Ford DFV engine. Each fine detail brings the model to life, and assembling it will surely evoke memorable scenes from racing history. Additionally, newly designed rubber tires are used to enhance realism. The kit also comes with two sets of slide decals, allowing you to choose between car No. 5 or No. 6, offering the joy of creating your very own “Black Beauty.”
Another highlight of this kit is that it allows you to recreate both the British GP and German GP versions of Andretti's and Peterson's cars. It comes with specific parts like roll bars and side pontoon air outlets for each version, so you can choose your preferred setup. This isn’t just model building—it’s an immersive experience that lets you relive the racing scenes of the past.
